The District Court of Colombo today (Feb. 17) dismissed a petition which sought to prevent the holding of the election of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).
The petition, filed by attorney-at-law E. Lilanthi de Silva, was dismissed by Colombo District Judge Sandun Withana.
As the court refused to issue a stay order, the BASL election for the post of President will proceed as scheduled on Wednesday (Feb 19) with former BASL Secretaries Rajeev Amarasuriya and Dr. Sunil Abeyaratne contesting for the 2025–2026 term.
Meanwhile, Anura Meddegoda PC, who had submitted his nomination for the post, has recently withdrawn his candidacy.
