The Society of Government Pharmacists (SGP) said the process of dispensing medicines in some hospitals has been hampered due to the shortage of pharmacists.
SGP President Thushara Ranadewa said that it has become a serious issue in peripheral hospitals.
Due to the current economic crisis, many pharmacists have left the country to work abroad.
A senior official of the Health Ministry said that the approval of the Finance Ministry has been sought to fill the vacancies of pharmacists.
