Former Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, alias ‘Pilleyan’, has filed a Fundamental Rights petition before the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
The petitioner seeks a ruling that his arrest and detention by the CID under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), over the abduction and disappearance of the Eastern University Vice Chancellor, violates his fundamental rights.
The petition names the following respondents: OIC of the CID’s Special Investigation Unit, Madhava Gunawardena; CID Director SSP Imesha Muthumala; Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya; the Minister of Defence; and the Attorney General.
