Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse a Samagi Jana Balawegaya protest held in Colombo, despite heavy rains today afternoon.

Protesters were making their way towards Fort when they were blocked close to the Technical Junction Maradana.

SJB members argued with the police over their right to hold the protest campaign calling the government to ensure that the Local Government elections are held on schedule.

A heavy traffic block was caused in the Pettah, Fort and Maradana area as thousands entered the city for the protest campaign.

The adverse weather also affected the protest campaign.
