Police release photos of suspects in Beliatta shooting incident

Sri Lanka Police are seeking public assistance to arrest three suspects wanted over the mass shooting in Beliatta in which five people, including the leader of “Ape Jana Bala Pakshaya” (Our Power of People Party or OPPP) Saman Perera, were killed.

The mass shooting took place on January 23 near the Beliatta interchange of the Southern Expressway. 

A group of assailants in an SUV had opened fire at a white Defender, killing four persons at the scene. 

The fifth person who was inside the Defender was rushed to the Tangalle Hospital with critical gunshot wounds, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

As many as 14 suspects have thus far been arrested in connection with the quintuple murder. 

The police are now seeking the assistance of the members of the public to apprehend three others suspected to be complicit in the mass shooting.
