Postal workers will go on sick leave for 24 hours from midnight today (12 June), in protest over two demands, stated the postal trade union coalition.

21,000 members belonging to 23 trade unions are scheduled to participate in the protest action and if a satisfactory response is not received, they will move on to a continuous strike from 24 June, coalition convener Chinthaka Bandara stated.

The postal workers are protesting the over 5000 vacancies that have not been filled as well as the nearly 400 sub post office personnel who have not been entered into the permanent cadre.
