Premitha’s stats on stray dogs, wrong!

The entire dog population in Sri Lanka is 03 million with most of them being raised as pets at homes, the Anti-Rabies unit of the Health Ministry states.

Consultant Community Physician – Dr. Athula Liyanapathirana says that vaccination and sterilization programmes of dogs are being continued.

He also emphasized that a census on the dog population of the country will be conducted in the near future and that it was illegal to kill dogs under current laws.

Meanwhile, animal welfare organizations have slammed a recent parliamentary statement of State Defence Minister – Premitha Bandara Tennakoon.

He had said that there are more than six million stray dogs in Sri Lanka and it was important to find solutions to the problem.

No change in Litro Gas prices for December

The Litro Gas Company says that the prices of its domestic LP Gas cylinders will remain unchanged for the month of December 2024.

Chairman of Litro Gas – Channa Gunawardena stated that the company decided to keep the prices of LP gas cylinders unchanged despite the price hike in the global market, in order to provide relief to the consumers.

Accordingly, the prices of Litro LP gas domestic gas cylinders will remain unchanged as follows:

12.5kg – Rs. 3,690
05kg – Rs. 1,482
2.3kg – Rs. 694

Tomorrow’s Parliamentary session to continue until 9.30 pm

It has been decided during the party leaders’ meeting to conduct tomorrow’s (Dec. 04) parliamentary session until 09.30 pm.

Accordingly, the adjournment debate regarding the disaster situation caused by the recent adverse weather conditions will be held from 05.30 pm – 09.30 pm tomorrow.
