Preparations underway for Special Tooth Relic exposition

Published

It is expected that at least 2 million devotees will visit Kandy to witness the special exposition of the Tooth Relic, which is scheduled to be held from April 18 to 27.

This was revealed at a discussion held yesterday (06) under the patronage of Central Province Governor Sarath Abhayakoon regarding the special exhibition of the Tooth Relic.

The discussion regarding its organizational arrangements was held at the Kandy District Secretariat.

It was revealed that although it is estimated that three devotees will be able to worship the Tooth Relic every second during the 10 days of the exhibition, only about 600,000 people will be able to enter the Temple of the Tooth Relic during that time.

Taking all these factors into account, Central Province Governor Sarath Abhayakoon said that as many people as possible should be given the opportunity to worship the Tooth Relic.

Central Province Governor Sarath Abhayakoon further said that schools in Kandy city will be closed during the period of the Dalada exhibition and that schools will be held on other days instead.

A number of issues including facilitating people coming to see the Dalada exhibition, lighting the city, and improving infrastructure were discussed at length. Kandy Municipal Health Medical Officer Pasan Jayasinghe said that giving Dansala to devotees can only be done by registering with the Municipal Council.

The discussion was attended by the Asgiri Division Committee Member Muruddeniye Dhammarathana, the Malwatte Division Committee Member Mahawela Rathanapala, the Central Province Chief Secretary Ajith Premasinghe, the Kandy District Secretary Indika Udawatte, the Central Province Governor’s Secretary Manjula Madahapola, and the Kandy Municipal Commissioner Indika Abeysinghe.

The Medical Research Institute of Sri Lanka has confirmed that the COVID-19 variant currently spreading in the Asian region has also been identified in the country.

Dr. Jude Jayamaha, a specialist in viral diseases at the Medical Research Institute, stated that patients infected with the Omicron subvariants LF.7 and XFG are being reported locally.

Dr. Jayamaha explained that this finding was confirmed through research conducted on biological samples collected from several hospitals across the island.

However, he emphasized that there is no need for undue fear regarding these COVID-19 variants.

Health authorities have also stressed the importance of vulnerable groups—such as pregnant mothers, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses—following health guidelines, including wearing face masks and avoiding crowded places.

Dr. Jayamaha reiterated that new COVID-19 variants emerge periodically, and health authorities are continuously monitoring the situation, so the public should remain calm.
