Leaders from seven neighboring countries, including Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, will attend Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony after his historic third-term win as India’s prime minister.
The event will take place in Delhi on today (09), with 9,000 guests, including foreign dignitaries and prominent figures from around the world, present.
The Indian foreign ministry confirmed that leaders from Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and other neighboring countries have accepted the invitation to attend the ceremony.
A video highlighting the esteemed guests from India’s neighborhood and the Indian Ocean region was also released.
Among the attendees will be Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, and Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Seychelles’ Vice President Ahmed Afif will also be present.
The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that the leaders’ visit reflects India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy and “SAGAR” vision.
The ceremony will be held at the presidential palace, Rashtrapati Bhavan, and will begin at 6 PM.
A banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu will follow in the evening.
Extensive security measures, including the deployment of over 2,500 police personnel and multi-layered security around the presidential palace, are in place.
Special guests include labourers from the Central Vista redevelopment project and miners involved in a major rescue operation last year.
