President read out a Ranil budget – Namal

Published

on

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa expressed concerns over the newly presented budget, stating that it closely resembles the policies of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

“I feel as if President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has simply read out a budget prepared by Ranil Wickremesinghe. This budget is very similar to the policies of former President Wickremesinghe and does not align with the proposals President Anura Kumara Dissanayake presented during his election campaign,” he said.

While acknowledging that any positive outcomes would be welcomed, Rajapaksa criticised the government’s approach to public sector salary increments.

“We expected salary increases to be granted every six months as promised. However, what we see now is a plan to implement increments three times over a span of three years. I do not see any significant benefit in this approach,” he added.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into a photo circulating on social media, allegedly showing the sacred tooth relic during the ongoing special exposition – ‘Siri Dalada Vandanawa’ in Kandy.

According to Police Headquarters, the circulating image is seemingly an image taken by a devotee who attended the exposition, which is being held until April 27.

The police emphasises that devotees are not permitted to take photos or use their phones.

In this backdrop, the CID is investigating to ascertain whether the circulating photo was indeed taken during the ‘Siri Dalada Vandanawa’ exposition, and whether it was a photo captured by someone or whether it is merely an edited image.
