President Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed the Urban Development Authority (UDA) to cancel the Colombo Bird Park project.

The President’s Office said the President has informed the UDA to recover the funds if money has been paid for the project already and to take over the land.

The project was launched in Madiwela in July 2021 with the objective of completing it in two years.

For this purpose, a land of 37 acres belonging to the UDA has been leased to Colombo Bird Park (Private) Company for 30 years.

The project was implemented by the UDA at a cost of Rs.3 billion.
