A Gazette notification was issued last night (19), setting the maximum amount a Presidential Candidate can spend per voter during election campaigns, according to Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake.
The spending limit has been established at Rs. 109.00 per voter. This new regulation will apply to all upcoming national elections, introducing campaign finance laws that cap the spending by candidates, political parties, and independent groups.
In preparation for the upcoming presidential election, the Election Commission consulted various stakeholders to discuss the legislation, gather feedback, and establish the spending limit and implementation strategy.
