The Department of Meteorology has announced that the prevailing showery conditions over the island are expected to ease starting today (August 22).

Several spells of showers are anticipated in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts. Additionally, showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in a few places in the Eastern and Uva Provinces during the evening or night.

Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph are expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, and the Hambantota district.

The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
