Probe into man dying after being released on police bail

The Acting IGP has directed the Panadura Crimes Investigation Division to probe the death of a man from Wadduwa, who had reportedly died after being released on police bail.

The man, a father of one from the Thalpitiya area of Wadduwa, had reportedly died after vomiting blood following his release on bail.

Accusing the police of beating the man, around 40 people gathered outside the Wadduwa Police station last night, calling for justice.

A group of officers was called in from surrounding stations, including Bandaragama, Pinwatta, Moronthuduwa, and Hirana to manage the situation.

Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga has said that a post-mortem will be conducted today and strict measures will be taken if it is confirmed that the victim was indeed beaten inside the police station.
