Professor Chandima Jeewandara said that the main reason for the spread of dengue in the country is the third strain of the dengue virus.
The professor said that this has been confirmed by the blood tests of dengue patients and that most dengue patients were reported from Colombo, Kalutara and Gampaha .
He said that by January 2023, dengue cases were reported in large numbers, and by March, cases of the third strain of dengue were reported instead of the second strain.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Government Ayurveda Medical Officer’s Association said boosting the immunity is helpful in preventing dengue infection.
As a result of the spread of dengue third strain, the number of dengue cases reported till date in 2023 is 30,772.
Last year, 4,019 dengue cases were reported in April while the number of cases reported in April this year is 7,617 which is an increase of 89%.
