Proper plan needed to address financial issues of middle-income countries: President

President Ranil Wickremesinghe stressed the need for a comprehensive plan to address the financial difficulties faced by middle-income countries like Sri Lanka.

The President expressed these views while addressing a High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development at the UN in New York yesterday (20).

The High-level Dialogue, held in conjunction with the 2023 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit, brought together leaders from government, the private sector, civil society, international financial institutions, academia, and other stakeholders.

It served as a vital platform for discussing creative solutions to current challenges and advancing the means of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

SL committed to UN Secretary General’s climate agenda

Speaking at the Climate Ambition Summit on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly yesterday (20), President Ranil Wickremesinghe affirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to the UN Secretary General’s accelerated climate agenda.

He highlighted the importance of tangible climate actions and commended the delegates for their valuable suggestions.

These initiatives, the Tropical Belt Climate Ambition Plan and the proposed debt relief for low-income economies within the belt, are poised to make a substantial contribution to advancing the Secretary General’s accelerated climate agenda.

President Wickremesinghe’s statement underscores Sri Lanka’s dedication to addressing the pressing challenges of climate change on both the national and global fronts.
