Proposal to conduct Law College exams in English defeated in Parliament

The gazette notification issued to make it compulsory to conduct Law College examinations only in English, was defeated in Parliament by 113 votes.

All government and opposition MPs except for MP Chandima Weerakkody voted against the gazette notification.

The relavant Extraordinary gazette notification (2208/13) issued in December 2020.

After defeating the gazette notification, students who are facing the Law College Examinations will be allowed to face the examinations in a language of their choice either in Sinhala or Tamil.
