PSC to look into CC’s delay in approving high posts

A separate Parliamentary Select Committee will be appointed to look into the Constitutional Council (CC) next week, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has said.

Speaking in Parliament today (23), the President stated that if certain members of the Constitutional Council were resorting to sabotage, this system would not be able to continue.

“The IGP is not there. Judges are not there. I wonder how we can meter out justice. Neither police nor the judicial system can work,” he said.

Non-academic university staff to launch 2-day token strike

The non-academic staff members of state universities have decided to go on a two-day token strike over several demands including a salary hike.

Accordingly, the strike will be held tomorrow (Feb.28) and the day after (Feb.29), University Trade Union Joint Committee’s Dhammika Priyantha said.

The committee had also warned to resort to a continuous TU action if authorities fail to address their issues within a week.
