The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) says that the public cannot afford the new electricity tariff revision approved by the Cabinet.
Speaking at a media briefing yesterday (03), PUCSL Chairman – Janaka Ratnayake said that if electricity tariffs are raised in this manner, political and economic issues which were previously spurred by electricity cuts in the country, may reoccur.
Meanwhile, President of the Thun Hela National Movement – Rev. Omare Kassapa Thero said last Friday (02) that although a request has been made from the Ceylon Electricity Board to provide details of politicians, businessmen and other VIPs with outstanding electricity bills exceeding Rs. 500,000, the information has not been provided so far.
