Pyramid Wilma sued for tax evasion of over Rs. 170 mn.

Sri Lanka Customs filed a case before the Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday (July 17) against a major sugar trading company – Pyramid Wilmar (Pvt) Ltd, over alleged tax evasion.

Sri Lanka Customs Director General – Mr. P.B.S.C. Nonis has filed the case (No. B 22752/06) before the Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Under the case, Pyramid Wilmar (Pvt) Ltd. is accused of evasion of special commodity tax amounting to Rs. 173,838,630.

The National Audit Office had recommended that the government immediately recover the revenue due to the state, lost by slashing taxes imposed on imported sugar.
