State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has expressed views on the vehicles imported to Sri Lanka during the import ban imposed on vehicles.
Responding to the questions raised by journalists while participating in a religious ceremony held at Malalpola in Yatiyantota yesterday, he said importing vehicles was banned on June 5, 2020.
“Recently, we allowed the import of vehicles for public use. About 6,900 vehicles have been imported for special purposes. Of these, 2,000 are three-wheelers needed by the police. Another 1,000 are other vehicles needed by the police. Ambulances and vehicles needed for public purposes, like embassies have been allowed to be imported. We have not given permission to import vehicles for other purposes. If there are vehicles imported illegally, action will be taken immediately,” he said.
