“Received Rs.198 mn. as arrears of excise duty this month”

Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means SJB MP Patali Champika Ranawaka said that the Government has received Rs.198 Mn as arrears of excise duty this month due to the revoking of the licences of alcohol production companies that do not pay arrears of excise duty.

He also said that due to the recommendation to cancel licences of those who do not pay the arrears of excise duty, a number of companies have come to an agreement to pay the arrears of excise duty and have started paying the arrears of excise duty for 2023.

It has been revealed in the meeting of the Committee that four Institutions have agreed to pay the outstanding tax of Rs.1.1 billion related to 2023 and the fees in nine installments by 31.12.2023.

Accordingly, on 06.11.2023, these four companies have paid Rs.198 million and on 31.12.2023, they have agreed to pay the remaining outstanding tax of Rs.1.056 billion, Excise officials have told the committee.
