State Minister of Women and Child Affairs Geetha Kumarasinghe said she will make a request to the President to re-impose the law preventing Sri Lankan mothers with children below the age of five from going abroad for domestic work.

Accordingly, State Minister Kumarasinghe said that they will revise the permission given at the moment.

She said the Ministry has decided to implement the amendment after considering the opinions and suggestions submitted by child rights organizations and academics regarding children’s rights and safety.

It was decided at the Cabinet meeting held on June 27 to reduce the minimum age of children of mothers who go abroad for domestic work to 2 years and to no longer make it mandatory to submit a family background report which was essential until then.

Accordingly, this decision is to be revised.
