The petitions filed by Ministers Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara challenging the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s (SJB) decision to remove them from their party memberships were fixed for argument by the Supreme Court today.

The Supreme Court three-judge-bench comprising Justices S. Thurairaja, Mahinda Samayawardena and Arjuna Obeysekara fixed the two matters for argument on October 12.

President’s Counsel Ronald Perera appeared for the petitioners and asked time to file counter objections against the petition.

The lawyers who appeared for the respondents informed the court that according to the Constitution, the Supreme Court should complete the hearing of the petitions within two months from the date of filing them.
