Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has submitted a proposal to the Speaker seeking the removal of Puttalam District MP Ali Sabry Raheem, who was fined Rs.7.5 million after he illegally smuggled in gold and mobile phones worth nearly Rs.80 million from Dubai, UAE, from all parliamentary committees.
MP Raheem also represents the Ethics and Privileges Committee.
Since the MP has been referred to the Ethics and Privileges Committee itself to be investigated, the Opposition Leader suggested that he should not represent all the committees until the investigation is completed.
This proposal has been included in the latest agenda of Parliament.
Meanwhile, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) also handed over a proposal to the Speaker to express displeasure over MP Raheem’s misconduct.
