The renovation of the Kelani Valley Railway Line commenced at the Homagama Railway Station premises yesterday under the patronage of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Bandula Gunawardana.

This project is scheduled to be completed within two years.

Around 2,359 wooden rail sleepers and 25,728 concrete rail sleepers are to be used to renovate the 59-km Maradana to Avissawella Railway Line at an estimated cost of Rs.1,270 million.

The Kelani Valley Railway Line currently has speed limits due to its poor condition.

Sri Lanka Railways plans to remove speed limits once the development works are completed.
