A rest area will be set up for local and foreign tourists visiting the Yala National Park at a cost of Rs.56 million, Wildlife and Forest Conservation Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.

The decision has been taken since tourists come in about 400 vehicles daily to see wild animals in Yala and there is no suitable place for them to rest during the day.

The ministry said that a strip of land near the sea of Yala is being prepared for tourists to relax. Pattanangala Block B section of Yala has been allocated for this purpose and parking facilities will be available for about 200 vehicles.

The ministry said that the rest area is to be constructed in such a way that it does not harm wildlife.
