A large number of people are waiting to receive their retirement gratuity due to the delay in the release of funds by the Treasury due to the economic crisis, the Director General of Pensions said.
He expressed these views at the Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Council and Local Government Ministerial Advisory Committee meeting held in Parliament.
The Director General said that all payments have been made up to January 2022 and the Treasury has agreed to release the funds required for payments from January onwards.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that a programme has been launched to rectify the delay in the payment of retirement gratuity.
The Prime Minister further stated that a Cabinet paper has also been presented in this regard and accordingly, arrangements will be made for making these payments in two installments after obtaining the approval of the Treasury.
