The riot police had been deployed in the Borella roundabout area over a tense situation in the area.
An event was organized in Borella to peacefully commemorate the Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day, which is observed to remember those who died in the final stages of the Sri Lankan civil war.
During the event, a group of persons from the ‘Ravana Balaya’ organisation were seen protesting holding banners with slogans stating ‘No to LTTE commemorations’.
The tense situation has resulted in the riot police being deployed to the area.
