The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) has alerted the public to a rise in financial fraud attempts involving scammers impersonating government agencies.
Senior Engineer Charuka Damunupola highlighted that these scams often utilize emails featuring fraudulent letters on official government letterhead, instructing recipients to make payments.
SLCERT has reported a significant uptick in complaints, with nearly 7,900 social media-related issues logged in the past five months, including 1,830 specifically related to financial fraud.
