Three individuals were admitted to Vavuniya General Hospital on Nov. 11 following a clash between supporters of former Wanni District MPs Rishad Bathiudeen and Kader Masthan, according to Vavuniya Police.

The clash resulted in damage to three vehicles that arrived in support of former MP Rishad Bathiudeen, including his own vehicle. Police report that Bathiudeen’s vehicle sustained significant damage while he was inside.

The incident occurred in Pattaniyachchupuliyankulam, Vavuniya, where a gathering was organised in support of former MP Kader Masthan. Supporters of Bathiudeen, who arrived on motorcycles, reportedly threatened and attempted to assault participants of the gathering.

Facing resistance, Bathiudeen’s supporters fled on their motorcycles. However, supporters of Masthan retaliated by ambushing Bathiudeen’s group as they returned in vehicles, attacking them.

Vavuniya Police intervened to defuse the situation, allowing Masthan’s gathering to proceed as planned. Police confirm that complaints have been filed by both parties regarding the incident.
