Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that Rs.1,154 billion have been received as government revenue in the first quarter of this year.
The government’s income in 2022 was Rs.1,751 billion.
It is 7.3 per cent as a percentage of the domestic product. Siyambalapitiya said that the government’s income in the first quarter of this year is 15.8 per cent as a percentage of the GDP. Finance Ministry statistics reveal that in the first quarter of this year, the government has received Rs.850 billion as indirect taxes and Rs.304 billion rupees as direct taxes.
In the first quarter of this year, the government has received Rs.850 billion as indirect taxes and 304 billion rupees as direct taxes. By end 2022, the total number of tax files in the country was 333,313. Of these, 291,677 were income tax files while the balance 41,636 were payee tax files.
The State Minister mentioned that the government is making great efforts to introduce a number of new programmes to expand the country’s tax base in the future.
