A suspect has been arrested by the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau yesterday (10) on charges of defrauding Rs.6,271,000 from three persons on the false assurance of getting imported vehicles released from the Hambantota Port.
Police said that he would be produced in the Magistrate’s Court No:06 at the Hulftsdorp Court Complex today.
The suspect is a 34-year-old resident of Alubomulla in Panadura, who is said to be a popular beautician and a model.
The complaint made by the three persons to the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau said the suspect had promised to get two Toyota Axio type cars and a Wagon-R type vehicle released from the port.
Police said that he was summoned to the Bureau last evening and was arrested following questioning.
Police further said that several police stations have also received complaints against the suspect regarding incidents of similar fraud.
The Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau is conducting further investigations.
