The government has decided to provide a grant of Rs.6,000 to purchase school books and supplies, before the end of this year.
The grant will be provided not only to children of Aswesuma recipients but also to children from other low-income families.
Speaking at a special media briefing held yesterday (Dec. 26) Finance and Planning Deputy Minister – Dr.Harshana Suriyapperuma said the Education Ministry will lead the initiative to identify eligible children and ensure the successful implementation of this benefit.
All eligible children will receive the Rs.6,000 grant through a proper procedure in the coming days, he added.
