The strike by academic and non-academic staff trade unions, alongside student unions at the University of Ruhuna, demanding the removal of the Vice Chancellor, continued for the fourth day today (Nov. 22).
The University Trade Union Joint Committee (UTUJC), Federation of University Teachers’ Trade Union Alliance, and student representatives recently discussed the matter with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya. UTUJC Co-Chairman Dhammika S. Priyantha accused the Vice Chancellor of exerting undue pressure on staff and students, allegedly driven by personal vendettas.
The Inter-University Students Federation (IUSF) also staged a Satyagraha outside the Ministry of Education and met with the Ministry Secretary to push for the Vice Chancellor’s removal.
