RW’s election manifesto to be unveiled on Thursday too (Update)

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced his presidential election manifesto will be unveiled on Thursday (Aug. 29).

He made this announcement while addressing the “Puluwan Sri Lanka” rally held near the Mawanella bus station earlier today (Aug. 28).

The manifesto which is titled ‘Puluwan Sri Lanka (Sri Lanka can) is based on economic stabilisation.

President Wickremesinghe emphasized the importance of continuing the country’s progress, likening it to crossing a vine bridge and warned that cutting the bridge would result in the country falling into the raging river, highlighting the risks of abandoning the current path.

The President also criticized the manifesto of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), noting that reducing tax revenues would lead to a decrease of over Rs. 200 billion in state revenue.

Meanwhile, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya too will unveil the presidential election manifesto of their candidate – Sajith Premadasa on Thursday.

ITAK re-evaluating decision to support Sajith

The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi initially decided to support Sajith Premadasa in the upcoming presidential election.

However, the party’s leader, Mavai Senadhiraja, announced that a discussion was held today in Vavuniya to reconsider this decision.

Senadhiraja stated that the party’s final decision will be officially presented on the 14th and 15th of this month.

5 more state ministers sacked

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has removed five more state ministers with immediate effect, the President’s Media Division states. 

The sacked state ministers are : Geetha Kumarasinghe, Shasheendra Rajapaksa, Amith Thenuka Vidanagamage, Prasanna Ranaweera and D.V. Chanaka. 

The removals were made under Article 47 (3) (a) of the Constitution, the PMD adds.

On Sep. 05, four state ministers were sacked in a similar manner.
