The administration of the Sabaragamuwa University says that the campus premises will be off limits to students other than first year with immediate effect.
Accordingly, students have been told to vacate hostels by 4.00pm.
It is also said that a group of undergraduates have surrounded the office of the university Vice Chancellor.
The administration had taken this decision following the clash between two groups of students in the early hours of today (16).
