Sally’s Defamation case against Rev.Cyril trial on Sept. 4

The case was filed by State Intelligence Service Chief Suresh Sallay claiming that Rev. Father Cyril Gamini of St. Anthony’s Church, Negombo, had damaged his reputation by making a statement regarding the Easter attack, and demanded that Father Cyril Gamini be charged a compensation of Rs.50 million for the reputational damage caused, was yesterday fixed for trial on September 04 by the Colombo District Court.

The pre-trial conference of the case was held yesterday before Colombo District Court Judge Purnima Paranagamage.

The case was filed against a statement made through “Zoom” technology during a discussion for the victims of the Easter attacks by the International Justice Forum on October 23, 2021.

Attorney Pahan Weerasinghe appeared for the prosecution and Attorney Wimal Ratwatte with President’s Counsel Shamil Perera appeared for the defence.
