Schaffter’s death: Experts committee begins analysing facts

The five-member forensic medical committee appointed to determine the cause of death of Janashakthi Group Director Dinesh Schaffter, has launched a two-day discussion at the Faculty of Medicine of Peradeniya University yesterday (23).

The committee members will meet today (24) as well to analyze the facts found so far.

The five members of the committee are Prof. Dinesh Fernando, Forensic Medical Consultant at the Department of Forensic Science of University of Peradeniya, Asela Mendis, Forensic Medical Consultant at the Forensic Science Department of University of Colombo, U.C.D. Perera, Forensic Medical Consultant at the Forensic Science Department of the Ruhunu University, former Forensic Medical Expert of Kandy Hospital S.Sivasubramaniam and P.R.Ruwanpura, Forensic Medical Consultant of Karapitiya Hospital, Galle.

The committee will discuss and decide whether Mr. Schaffter’s death was a suicide or a murder.

The body of Mr. Schaffter was exhumed and a post-mortem examination was conducted at the Karapitiya Hospital again and the purpose of the two-day discussion is to review the reports and facts received so far.

Several rounds of further discussions are scheduled to be held in the future.

No change in Litro Gas prices for December

The Litro Gas Company says that the prices of its domestic LP Gas cylinders will remain unchanged for the month of December 2024.

Chairman of Litro Gas – Channa Gunawardena stated that the company decided to keep the prices of LP gas cylinders unchanged despite the price hike in the global market, in order to provide relief to the consumers.

Accordingly, the prices of Litro LP gas domestic gas cylinders will remain unchanged as follows:

12.5kg – Rs. 3,690
05kg – Rs. 1,482
2.3kg – Rs. 694

Tomorrow’s Parliamentary session to continue until 9.30 pm

It has been decided during the party leaders’ meeting to conduct tomorrow’s (Dec. 04) parliamentary session until 09.30 pm.

Accordingly, the adjournment debate regarding the disaster situation caused by the recent adverse weather conditions will be held from 05.30 pm – 09.30 pm tomorrow.
