A police sergeant who was on duty at the official residence of the Matara District Judge died this morning (28) due to gunshot wounds, the Matara Police said.
The deceased was a police officer who was on duty at the official residence of Ms.Rasika De Silva, the third Judge of the Matara District Court.
The victim was identified as 54-year-old Bandula Pushpakumara, a resident of Medapola Gewatta, Thalpawila in Kekanadura.
He was on night duty at the official residence of the District Judge, and faced the unfortunate incident before finishing his duties early in the morning.
Police said the death was caused by two gunshots to the chest, and his official firearm was also found lying near the body.
The Matara Police are conducting investigations to ascertain whether this is a suicide or a homicide.
