The Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka has announced that several areas in Kandy are to face a  65-hour water cut from 1.00am on Sep. 28 – 6.00pm on Sep. 30.

The Authority says that the Polgolla reservoir is to be emptied for maintenance work and therefore, it will not be possible to provide water to the water treatment plants of Polgolla and Greater Kandy.

Accordingly, water supply will be suspended to the areas falling under the Kandy Municipal Council, Harispatttu, Pujapitiya, Pathadumbara and Akurana water supply systems.

In addition, Rajawella, Sirimalwatta, Ampitiya, Amunugama, Hantana and Valala areas which fall under the Kundasale Divisional Secretariat as well as Mawathagama areas which are supplied water by the Greater Kandy water treatment plant, will also be affected.

The Mahaweli Authority also warns civilians not to enter the Mahaweli River for playing or fishing amid the low water levels.
