The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has given orders to transfer the North-Western Province Senior DIG, Puttalam DIG, Puttalam Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Anamaduwa SP and Chief Inspector (CI) with immediate effect.
Accordingly, North-Western Senior DIG L.S. Pathinayake, Puttalam DIG S.M.Y.M. Senaviratne, Puttalam SSP Pushpakumara, Anamaduwa SP H.M.C.P. Herath and Anamaduwa CI Nilantha R. Bandara have been transferred with effect from March 28.
It was reported that this is the first time that a group of high-ranking officers, including a senior DIG, have been transferred with immediate effect at once.
However, police sources said that the reason for this transfer is the incident where a group of police Special Task Force (STF) officers assaulted a police constable attached to the Nawagaththegama Police at Alankulama in Anamaduwa on March 22.
