Shots fired into air during commotion at Panadura 

A shooting incident was reported at Sylvan Lane in Panadura last night (30), the Panadura-South Police said.

Police said the shooting was done by a lawyer working at the Hulftsdorp Court complex in Colombo, and no one was injured in the shooting.

The suspected lawyer and two women who were with him have been arrested, and the 9mm pistol used in the shooting and the luxury jeep they arrived in have also been taken into police custody. Police said the pistol was licensed.

A woman friend of the lawyer had given a loan to a person in Panadura. Since this person had failed to pay back the loan, the woman had arrived at his home at Sylvan Lane along with another woman and the lawyer.

Police investigations said that there was a heated argument between the two groups and the lawyer and fired shots in the air when the other group had attempted to attack him.

The luxury jeep in which the lawyer came had also been damaged.

The Panadura crime scene laboratory officials conducted investigations and found an empty 9mm ammunition casing lying at the place of the shooting, police said.

The suspects were to be produced in the Panadura Magistrate’s Court today.
