The Police Media Division has issued a statement saying that people who provide false and inaccurate information through the 119 police emergency number will face severe punishment.

A person who provides such false and inaccurate information may be imprisoned for a period of up to six months or fined or receive both punishments.

Police said that the 24-hour police emergency number 119 receives between 3,000 and 3,500 calls daily.

It has been observed that the number has been misused and the public has given false information on several occasions.

Accordingly, the police issued the statement taking into account the obstacles and delays in attending to important and urgent telephone calls.
