Sabaragamuwa ragging : 7 undergrads bailed (Update)

Seven undergraduates of the Sabaragamuwa University who were arrested for ragging a female student, have been released on bail.

Taking up the case earlier today (Jan. 29), the Balangoda Magistrate’s Court ordered to release the seven suspects on personal bails of Rs. 100,000 each.

Initially, six male undergraduates were arrested by the Samanalawewa Police on Sunday evening (28 Jan.) while a female undergraduate had surrendered to the police this morning.

6 undergrads arrested for ragging at Sabaragamuwa Uni.

Six fourth-year students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages at Sabaragamuwa University have been arrested by the Samanalaweva Police on charges of ragging a female student.

The Samanalaweva Police conducted an investigation following a complaint received on hotline 1997 and arrested the suspects.

Police said the arrested students are from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages of the Sabaragamuwa University.

They were arrested yesterday (28) after being summoned to the Samanalawewa Police Station.

The arrested students, aged 23, 24 and 25 years are residents of Morawaka, Rukgahawila, Aluhtarama, Imaduwa and Kithalawa and they will be produced before courts today.
