Following the defeat in the 2024 Presidential Election, discussions are underway to form a new alliance between the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the United National Party (UNP) ahead of the upcoming General Election.
SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara confirmed that proposals for unity have been floated, and the party is considering how to proceed.
SJB, led by Sajith Premadasa, split from the UNP in 2020.
Bandara clarified that any potential collaboration would be under a new alliance, not under the UNP banner.
The SJB parliamentary group has appointed a committee to strategize party revitalization before the General Elections.
