SJB to form massive election alliance – Marikkar

Published

on

The main Parliamentary Opposition Party, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), is set to form a massive election alliance within the next two weeks, said SJB Opposition Parliamentarian (MP) S. M. Marikkar.

Speaking at a press conference held yesterday (21), Marikkar announced that numerous political parties and recognised political organisations, including certain breakaway groups from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), are expected to join this new alliance.

“We are creating a broad coalition to challenge the current administration and present a unified front,” said Marikkar.

He also emphasised that there is no possibility of postponing the Presidential Election.

“President Ranil Wickremesinghe has tried all attempts to delay the election. No more attempts are left with him. Now, the Election Commission must ensure the election is held on time,” Marikkar stated.

Highlighting the SJB’s economic strategy, Marikkar claimed that the party stands alone with a distinguished economic policy, unlike other political parties.

“The SJB is the only party with a comprehensive economic plan. We intend to hold an international donor conference to attract investor support and develop an export-oriented economy that can compete in the global market,” he said.

He also questioned the programmes of President Wickremesinghe, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) led National People’s Power (NPP), and the SLPP for economic revival, charging that none of the other parties have a clear or effective programme for the nation.
