Skin cancer cases in Sri Lanka on the rise

Dermatologist Dr. Sriyani Samaraweera said that there has been an increase in the cases of skin cancer among Sri Lankans recently.

Although Sri Lankans are naturally less prone to skin cancer due to their skin color and protection from melanin, she said that some of the drugs and cosmetics that many people use to whiten their skin have contributed to skin cancer.

Dr. Samaraweera warned about the use of certain cosmetics without proper consultation and said that there is a tendency in the country to use any medicine or cream without any consultation to make the skin whiter.
