SL Customs clarifies reports on containers released

Sri Lanka Customs today (Jan. 29) issued a clarification, stating that no cargo designated to Expolanka Holdings among the 323 containers released without inspections.

An 8-point special media release issued by Sri Lanka Customs states that the 323 containers in question were released by the Screening Unit which was appointed on 18 July, 2024 as a solution to the container traffic congestion.

The containers were released by the Screening Unit under the relevant criteria as per the advice of the committee while also considering the advice by the President and the committee chair Minister Bimal Ratnayake on Jan. 12, 2025.

The release also states that it s not possible for weapons, gold and narcotics to enter the country or for any losses in the Customs duties.
