SL – Italy to sign bi-partial civil aviation agreement

Discussions were made between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of Italy in respect of the relevant steps relevant to the bi-partial civil aviation activities, and accordingly, cabinet approval has been granted on 24-07-2018 for signing a civil aviation agreement between the two countries. 

However, the said agreement has yet to be signed, and both parties have identified the appropriability of entering into the said agreement promptly.   

Under the proposed agreement, it has been able to operate up to 14 fixed scheduled air routes per week for air passenger services and up to 07 fixed scheduled air routes per week for air cargo services on agreed routes using any type of aircraft. 

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Transport, Highways, Port, and Civil Aviation to sign the said civil aviation agreement between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of Italy.

Former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, his wife and daughter have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

They have been arrested over an investigation into their assets, according to the Bribery Commission.

CMC mayor assumes duties

Vraie Cally Balthazaar of the National People’s Power (NPP) officially assumed duties as Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Mayor today (June 18).

The most talked-about candidate in the 2025 Local Government Election, Balthazaar was elected the 26th Mayor of the CMC while receiving 61 votes following a secret ballot on Monday (June 16).

She becomes the second female Mayor of CMC, following Rosy Senanayaka.
